montecarl: Friday and Saturday with The BC

Tomorrow night, Friday July 6, The Banana Convention returns to The Belmont in Detroit to perform alongside the great bands I Crime, Almost Free, and Stranger Things. We will be putting on a very special show for our fans in Detroit, as we will have very special guests Bananas Ezekiel Applebottom and Dr. Chesterfield Mantooth joining us on stage for this one of a kind Banana show. Not only that, but we will (hopefully) be getting a live recording as well. So come on out, witness what may be a one night only event with these special Banana guests, and be a part of our newest live recording! It's going to be a great night. Show starts at 9:30, has a cover of $5, and is open to ages 18+.

Then on Saturday night, we make our annual trip back to Alger, MI and the Greenwood Family Campground (636 W. Greenwood Rd). This is our third year there, and we always have a great time. We'll be playing around 6pm and it's open to ALL AGES and it costs NOTHING to come and enjoy the campground and the live music in the afternoon.

And for those who haven't yet, please go to www.TheBananaConvention.com and BUY OUR NEW CD! I don't expect the Limited Edition CDs to last much longer after this weekend, so get yours now!

montecarl: 70 Years of White's Bar

This weekend marks a milestone for not only a local business, but for our favorite place for original live music, as well as a local musical institution. White's Bar celebrates their 70th Anniversary this Saturday, June 30, and they're throwing a heck of a party! They will be having an all day event, beginning with live bands outside at 2pm and going throughout the rest of the day and night. They will be having a pig roast, among other wonderful foodstuffs, and will be open to all ages until 10pm. The Banana Convention will be there to celebrate, along with other great bands such as The Mongrels, Stamp'd, Dominaut, I Became The Sky, The Flashmob, and more! It's going to be a great day of celebration and we're honored to be a part of it, so please come on out and party with us.

I'd also like to throw a little plug in for our great friends Buckra, who will be coming up from Cincinatti to play at White's tomorrow night, Friday June 29. They are a wonderful and fun band that you don't want to miss. And if that's not enough, our very own Mighty AfroDytee/Shar will be opening up for Buckra with her other band Soundstream. That's TWO great nights at White's Bar. I'll be there both nights, so if nothing else, you'll get to come and hang out with me. :)

We still have copies of our CD for sale at our website, www.TheBananaConvention.com, so if you haven't gotten yours yet, now is the time! They are going fast, so get yours today!

See y'all this weekend at White's Bar!

montecarl: Dirty Negatives

Thanks to everybody who sent us album title ideas. We had so many great submissions that all made us laugh and smile, but unfortunately we were unable to choose them all. That would've made for a REALLY long album title, what with the well over 200 title suggestions we received. We have decided to go with the title "Dirty Negatives", which goes with the photography theme we already had planned for the album artwork, and also works on another level as the album has a raw and dirty sound. Here's a few of our other favorite suggestions.

Monkey Pistol
The Best Cool Karate Language
Potassium Compendium
Oranges are for Jerks
Yellow is the New Black

We will be keeping all your suggestions locked away in our banana vault for possible future song or album titles. Now that we have a title, we have unveiled the album cover over at www.TheBananaConvention.com. Speaking of the website, plans to unveil our new site are still underway and that should be coming within the next few weeks. We apologize for it taking so long, but we've had a lot on our plate the last few weeks. Keep your eyes peeled.

Of course I don't have to remind you that our CD Release Party is this Friday night at White's Bar here in Saginaw. Show kicks off at 9pm with Daniel Patrick, followed by Soundstream, The Holy Gun, and then The BC. Again, we will have on hand 100 copies of the Limited Edition CD created just for the CD Release Party, which has original demo tracks of some songs on the album as well as a few live tracks. Unfortunately, the planned "making of" video will not be done in time to be placed on the disc, but we're still working on finishing that up and we'll make it available to everybody soon.

Looking past the CD Release on Friday, we will be returning to White's next week on June 30 to help them celebrate their 70th year of operation. This will be an all day event and feature other great bands such as Stamp'd, The Mongrels, The Flashmob, and more! White's is our "home" and it's our honor to be performing at this milestone event for them, and we hope you all will come out and celebrate with us and them.

We're shaping up to have a pretty busy July, but we'll save that all that info for next week's update. See you all this Friday night!

montecarl: Name The Banana Convention's New Album!!

The Banana Convention's CD Release Party is just over a week away and we don't have an album title yet! This is where all of our loyal Banana-Fannas come in. We need your help, so we're having a contest to see who can come up with the best title for our album. The winner will receive a free autographed copy of our CD and a Banana Convention T-Shirt. If you'd like to participate in this contest, send your submissions to albumtitle@thebananaconvention.com with the subject line "BC Album Title". In next week's mailing list update, I will post our Top 5 Favorites and we will reveal our choice for the winner, as well as unveil the artwork of the album cover. Feel free to make as many submissions as you'd like! The cutoff date for submissions will be this Friday, June 15 at 5pm EST.

In other CD Release Party news, we've decided to make the release even more extravagant and have an exclusive run of only 100 Limited Edition prints of our album that will include special CD packaging, several additional demo and live tracks, and a short video and slide show narrated by our own Fletch Bohanski about the making of the album. These additional tracks and video will not available on future pressings of the CD once those 100 Limited Edition CDs are gone. These will first go on sale at the CD Release Party with any additional Limited Edition CDs that we might still have after the Party going on sale online after the show. This means that if you want to guarantee that you'll get one of these special CDs, you must come to the CD Release party next Friday night, June 22, at White's Bar here in Saginaw.

Be sure to mark June 22 on your calendar and get to White's Bar early because the place is sure to fill up fast. The show starts at 9pm with our newest honorary Banana, Ezekiel Applebottom (aka Daniel Patrick), kicking off the night with his brand of acoustic madness, followed shortly thereafter by Soundstream and then The Holy Gun. The BC will arrive and rock your faces off at midnight.

Get those Album Title submissions in to us at albumtitle@thebananaconvention.com by this Friday, and see you all next week when the winner will be announced!

montecarl: Hopefully David Bowie will show up....

This Friday night, The Banana Convention heads to The Labyrinth in Detroit
(1701 Cass Ave) to play alongside The Retistics. This is our first show at The Labyrinth, so come on out and support us in a new venue.

Then right around the corner after that is our CD Release Party on Friday night, June 22! It's going to be a very special and fun night. Kicking off the night at 9pm will be our good friend Daniel Patrick, who provided a rocking harmonica line for us on a song on the album. Following Dan will be Soundstream, the side project of our front woman Shar/AfroDytee. If you love her voice with The BC, be sure to check out what she does with Soundstream. Then The Holy Gun hits the stage, which is new guitarist Ray Torres' other group. So it's Bananas on stage the entire night. And if you buy our CD at the door, which you would've been doing in the first place (RIGHT!?!), you won't have to pay any cover and you can enjoy the sounds all night long. If you can't wait three weeks and want a sneak peak at some new songs on the album, check out our MySpace page for demos/works in progress of our new songs. And leave us comments about what you think of the new stuff. We love to hear from you!

See you this weekend at The Labyrinth. Anybody who shows up dressed as The Goblin King will get a free T-Shirt!

montecarl: This Saturday Night at Small's in Hamtramck

The Banana Convention returns to Detroit this Saturday night as we once again grace the stage at Small's. But we're not coming alone. Oh no. We're bringing with us our great friends from Cincinnati, OH, the one and only Buckra! But that's not all. Act now and you'll also get a heaping helping of the hotwalls! And opening up the show is the always fantastic Search Party. It's going to be a great night of music and fun. We'll also be recording the show that night for promotional purposes, so come on out and make as much noise as you can and maybe you'll end up in the mix.

Speaking of recording, we're almost there! Our CD Release Party is only one month away. June 22 at White's Bar in Saginaw will see our first full length album officially hit the streets. This album with have a few old favorites and a bunch of new favorites. We're all really excited about where it's going and can't wait for y'all to check it out. We don't like to keep our Banana-Fannas waiting, though, so you can check out our MySpace page for some live versions of brand new songs and some rough mixes of what will eventually end up on the album. Go check our works in progress and let us know what you think.

Thanks, and see everybody on Saturday at Small's!

montecarl: Review Awards and more

So last night was the 21st Annual Review Magazine Awards. When all was said
and done, the Banana Convention walked away with 6 Awards:

Best Rock Guitarist
Best Rock Drummer
Best Female Vocalist
Best Website
Rock Band Deserving Wider Recognition
Best Variety Band

Thank you to all who voted for us.

We're working hard in the Confucius Records recording studio to get that
album done for you so it's nice and pretty for our CD Release Party coming
up on June 22. Until then, we don't have a whole lot on the plate, so the
updates will be rare. Since things are quiet in Banana-Land at the moment,
let me point you to some other musical experiences you may enjoy since you
don't have your BC fix. Here's some of our great Banana Friends that I
suggest you check out:

Buckra: http://www.buckra.com
Soundstream: http://www.myspace.com/soundstream1
Thunderchickens: http://www.myspace.com/thethunderchickens
Colieda: http://www.colieda.net
the hotwalls: http://www.thehotwalls.com
Some Assembly Required: http://www.myspace.com/sardetroit
The Holy Gun: http://www.myspace.com/theholygun

Our website continues to undergo construction, and when that is all said and
done, you'll see a great many changes. A relaunch of The Banana Convention,
if you will. It's an exciting time and we look forward to getting back out
there and sharing our music with you again. See you soon!

montecarl: April 26

Hello once again Banana-Fannas. Oily McBride here with another update from Banana Land.

We just got back from a great weekend trip through Dayton and Chicago. While our official website is under construction, you can check out our MySpace website for a bunch of pictures from the trip. Tomorrow night we're back in Detroit when we play at The Belmont (10215 Jos Campau) with Some Assembly Required and The Dial Tones. The show starts at 10 and is $5 ($7 ages 18-20).

We've been busy recording a bunch of new songs in the Confucius Records Studios, and you can take a listen to some of the rough demo work we've done at our MySpace site, which you can get to by going to our website address, www.TheBananaConvention.com, and clicking the splash image.

Speaking of our website and it being under construction, keep an eye on the site because a whole new plantation is being grown with a whole new look and a bunch of new features. We're hoping that the new site will be unveiled in late May, just in time for the debut of our first full length CD! Let's keep our fingers crossed that we stay good little productive Bananas and get all this work done over the next month and a half. Until then, keep drinking your banana juice!
